If you’re from the Baby Boomer or a Generation X eras, you may remember a magical craft called, Shrinky Dinks. They’re actually still available!
It is a flexible sheet of plastic, which you can draw and color a design and cut it out to the shape desired. Here’s where the magic happens. The design can then be baked in a low-heat oven and within a matter of minutes, it shrinks to one-third its original size and becomes a light-weight, hard-plastic treasure. Voila!
You never know how it’s going to turn out until the final process is complete. The imperfections from coloring disappear as it shrinks. What may have been a big mistake has become the tiniest of flaws.
We make mistakes. We dwell on those mistakes. But with a little bit of time and “processing”, we realize some of the things we fixated on become tiny flaws rather than the huge stumbling block we first thought. What we perceived looked rough, now has been smoothed out and resulted in an intriguing character treasure.
Is there something hanging over you today that you would like to Shrinky Dink? Take a moment of pause, change your train of thought and in a day or two, I’m guessing a fresh look will reveal the magnitude of the problem is rather minuscule. There may even be a positive twist you hadn’t seen before. Our imperfections, missteps and blunders become part of our character and the cool unique treasure we each are.
