Timing

What does it mean when you hear, in God’s timing?  Back in the sixties, The Byrds released a melody called Turn, Turn, Turn, which was often sung in the church our family was attending.  The song is based on the bible verse Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.  It said there was an appointed time for everything.  As the seasons come it helps to have discernment to know when to act or move.  If there is a season of waiting, wait.  If there is a season of action, make the move.  What happens if you misinterpret the timing?  In my life, doing things in my chosen timeframe was a struggle.  I had to work harder, push through obstacles that probably wouldn’t have been there had I waited.  It is tough to be patient while living in an instant gratification culture.  When I waited for things there was an ease to the next steps.  The pause gave me time to pray, observe and prepare for what was ahead.

Maybe you don’t have a faith in God or you lack a sense of spiritual direction or you’re just plain skeptical in things other than what you can physically see.  I get it.  I was in the same space at one time.  It took some incredible people to pray for me and show me tangible evidence of how God works in our lives.  My story is one that takes place over a decade and the CliffsNotes version wouldn’t do it justice.  For now, I’ll stick to the main focus of timing.

We can think the occurrence of events is coincidence, but if we look back in retrospect I’m certain we would see an underline purpose in the sequence of experiences.  In one instance in my life, I chose to make a huge move.  What I thought was going to be an easy transition to a place where I would have family around me, became a cross-multiple states relocation to a city I had visited once.  Initially, it didn’t seem to be the best choice when moving as a single-parent of a two-year-old.  However, that move changed the trajectory of my life.  In a place, I thought I was going to be alone, I met the most incredible families that welcomed me and my son with open arms.  They became an extension of my own family, surrounding me with love, support and parenting direction.  From those key relationships, I was reacquainted to the most important relationship in my life – my faith in Jesus Christ.  I saw faith in a new perspective.  It became way of life and I have never looked back.  The leap into the unknown wasn’t as random as it may have seemed.  I found out later, that people had been praying for me years before.  Their faithfulness resulted in a new life for me.  Those prayers of a few have multiplied through generations with my son, daughter-in-love and the grandkids, all living a life of faith in our Savior, Jesus.

We don’t have to believe.  It is a choice. We can continue to walk the same path we’re on.  Ask yourself, are you feeling alone on your journey?  Do you struggle daily with the same battles?  Are you making progress in life feeling loved, supported and cared for?  Accepting Jesus as part of your life isn’t an Etch-a-Sketch choice that will erase all the hurt places, but it opens the door to forgiveness, rebuilding, eternal life and an ultimate friendship.

Have you been waiting for the right moment in time?  Have you been pursuing everything else first?  Are you pushing ahead in your own strength?  Are you tired of doing life alone?  Perhaps timing is coming in to play at this very moment.  Take the next step.
