Monday

Today is Monday.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

How does one day ramp up the emotions and the anticipation of the week?  Monday is the springboard for the next four days.  It’s like a roller coaster – you’re slowly clicking up the first hill – clack, clack, clack – the anticipation is building.  A little bit of excitement and apprehension begins to increase with each click of the wheels.  The top is in sight.  The final few clacks and you’re balancing at the top.  Great view if you have the wherewithal to enjoy it for that brief moment.  Then the ride truly begins as you slowly move forward – WHOOSH!  Hang on!  Your week has begun!

How will your week unfold?  If you were able to enjoy the weekend – spend time with family, friends or just disconnect and bask in bit of quiet, you’re ready for the days ahead.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

If weekends are a constant barrage of get-it-done moments, it may be more difficult to be rested for the next week.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

Were the kids constantly clamoring for your attention and the only time you had a moment to yourself was in the bathroom?  Monday could be overwhelming.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

Did your weekend mean catering to your aging parents?  Running errands, visiting, meeting their basic needs leaving little time for your own home chores?

Deep breath in….and exhale.

We underestimate the strength we possess.  Our capacity seems limited, yet we find ways to adapt and pack more in.  We’re determined to do all the stuff and darn it, we’re going to have fun, somehow, someway!  Finding the balance can be like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack; we’re forever in pursuit, but rarely actually discover it.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

Sometimes the best way to achieve balance is to let things go.  Perhaps, we’ve set our standards too high.  What would happen if you didn’t get all the chores done?  What if you actually said no to another birthday party?  What if you blocked out one hour to do nothing?  Would it be crazy to turn off the TV, table the electronics and actually sit on the couch or on the porch and just be?  If an hour seems too much to achieve, try 15 minutes.  Increase each weekend until you’ve found the balance that brings calm to the anticipated Monday chaos.

Deep breath in….and exhale.

You’ve got this!
