Simple Pleasures

I am not a complicated person.  My life is full of simple pleasures.  I find joy in family, close friends, good coffee and home.  We all have different perceptions of simple pleasures and what makes our hearts warm and fuzzy.  It’s subjective, based on our personalities, upbringing and maybe even our geographic locations.

A few of the simple pleasures I truly enjoy include walking in the woods, looking at the moods of the lake, coffee, Saturday night movies at home with my husband, family dinners, driving the Jeep, my grandson’s Little League games, weekend adventures with forever friends and scooter rides in the valley.  There are more things I could add because my whole life is simple! Part of reaching simplicity comes with age.  Age brings the luxury of whittling away the excess.  Through the years of working, achieving and attaining, we learn what works for us and what bogs us down.

Do you have simple pleasures you truly enjoy?  Maybe it’s visiting the neighborhood bakery, looking for shells on the shore, enjoying a tea party with friends, discovering a new Glassybaby for the collection or volunteering at the foodbank.  Your list will be different depending on your stage of life. Starting a new week with a reminder of what brings joy, springboards us into the chaos of our week with a happy perspective.  Maybe if we start the week bubble wrapped in happy, the bombardment of demands will bounce off without leaving a mark.

Want to share the simple pleasures you truly enjoy?   Leave your comment below.  I would love to hear from you!

  1. This us all true! I’m a list maker, so I formulated an alphabetical list long ago of favorite simple joys (changes, of course, through the years). Whether I have a few minutes or all day, what I choose to do with that time often incorporates some of those things. (I also have seasonal lists, which are more like prose. They help me to remember to indulge before the season is gone. Like taking the long way just in case I come across a couple of kids with a lemonade stand). Thanks for the encouragement, friend!
