Over the last week I have been radio-silent. A number of things have come into play. I hit a one-year mark of producing my website and I wanted to make some changes. Unfortunately, I came down with a cold that left my creative motivation in a funk. Although I have spent a lot of time on the couch, it was time spent binge-watching my favorite Netflix show rather than producing content for social media and the blog. I would like to say I’ve made it over the hurdle, but a second round of symptoms hit. It’s interesting, I usually get sick at the changing of the seasons. Not sure why the cyclical timing other than perhaps the fluctuation in temps throws me for a loop? Frustrating, since I had a mental timeline of when and what I was going to accomplish this last week. Not happening. Discouraging for sure. Well, as in any speedbump in life, I will suck it up and try to get the ball rolling on this next phase of public writing.
Do you have a project that you have been mulling over for a period of time? Either something new you imagine yourself trying, a hobby that you think you may want to take to the next level? Perhaps, launching of an online store, website or blog, writing a book, creating art, running a marathon? What’s stopping you?
For most of us, the two common hurdles would be time and money. I don’t have time because I have to work, take care of the kids, do all the things to maintain my home, family, education, etc. The lack of resources also stems from the same – financial restraints arising from everything being allocated toward domestic, school or career responsibilities. Noble and understandable. Can you relate?
Is there a way to accomplish it all? I see television programs promoting entrepreneurs – the stories are amazing. People find a way to finance their dreams and create ingenious products to solve the craziest needs. What drives them? Is it the motivation to change the world…in even a little way? Is it the desire to be different; forge a unique path to stand out? Is it the overflowing of creative dreams longing to break free and become a reality? Is it the longing for independence from the 9-to-5 pigeonhole? What is driving your dream?
My philosophy is, if you have the dream, go for it! Life is short; adventures are waiting! I don’t want to get to the end of my life and look back wondering what I missed out on. Now, can you understand why a few days sitting on the couch frustrates me? The clock is ticking and there are experiences and dreams to be had, there are people to meet, lives to impact and memories to be made.
Do you have the idea?
Do you have the energy?
Do you have the focus?
Dive in! Just Do it! Whatever the phrase is to get you off your couch and make it happen, post it somewhere so you remain fixed on the goal. Motivation is the key! Every day do a little something to whittle away at your aspiration. Take one step and it will lead to another. Suddenly you will have moved from just mulling the dream over in your head, to having momentum forward and making it a reality. Share your passion with a few close friends. Support, love and encouragement from them will fuel your progress. On the other hand, don’t be discouraged if they don’t vocally cheer you on. Those who love you will be there for you regardless of their style of support.
Take the first step towards the dream. You can make it happen!
